Advocate for Canadian Assistance to Palestinian Evacuees

Urgent Support for Palestinian Evacuees

I am writing to you on behalf of Nisa Foundation and as a concerned citizen deeply moved by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has led to a severe displacement of individuals and families who are now in desperate need of safety, support, and refuge.

Canada has a longstanding tradition of providing humanitarian aid and welcoming those in need. In light of the current crisis, I urge the Canadian government to take decisive and compassionate action to support evacuees from Gaza. Specifically, I request that the government consider the following measures:

Facilitate Safe and
Expedited Entry

  • Implement emergency procedures to safely evacuate those approved as part of the family reunification program, expedite their visa applications, ensuring a swift and secure process.
  • Establish temporary and immediate accommodation upon arrival including providing essential services (food, clothing, medication, settlement workers).
  • Ensure expedited open work permits are issued upon arrival.
  • Wave application fees.

Provide Comprehensive
Support Services

  • Provide or fund mid to long term housing options.
  • Guarantee access to full healthcare services, including medical and psychological support.
  • Fund mental health services to address trauma by offering free and/or affordable counselling and therapy tailored to the needs of those affected.
  • Support educational programs to integrate children and adults into the Canadian education system, providing necessary resources and language training.
  • Provide funding for community-based organizations and service providers actively involved in aiding evacuees from Gaza.

Your support in these areas is crucial to ensure that evacuees from Gaza receive the opportunity to live a life free of trauma, with dignity and respect.

By taking these actions, Canada can demonstrate its commitment to humanitarian principles and offer hope and relief to those in dire circumstances.

Thank you for considering this important matter. I look forward to your positive response and to seeing Canada lead by example in this time of crisis.
